Game's That Pushed the PlayStation

Image
I've played almost every game the PlayStation has to offer, even the Japanese exclusives. But in my personal opinion, these are the games that pushed the PlayStation Hardware to the extreme. Naturally I couldn't fit them all in, but these are the games that made me sit up and go... "Wow!" It's is too easy to look at these games today and quickly dismiss them, but at the time, the PlayStation console and the developers supporting it really showed us what Sony's hardware could do. Not many console's got the chance to showcase their true potential, but with the Sony PlayStation, we witnessed humble beginnings turn into leaps and bounds. Thanks for your support, leaving a comment, or rating my video! I really appreciate it. Please subscribe and like :)) Thanks. Ridge Racer V - Classic Inspection

Image
I’ve been chasing pixels for as long as I can remember, the craze started with Pole Position and spiralled out of control with Outrun! Ever since then I’ve been firmly shackled to the genre. Racing around in a pixelated Ferrari at breakneck speeds has always been that little bit more achievable than racing in the real world.    The discovery of certain games can happen when you least expect. Whilst answering the call of nature, I stumbled across a Ridge Racer V review in an old issue of Edge. I used to feel like a bit of an interloper when it came to the Playstation and I completely missed Ridge Racer the first time round. You see, I backed a different horse - the Saturn, then later the Dreamcast. I did however still have access to loads of cool games, and I played some great driving games such as Sega Rally, Daytona USA, Ferrari F355 and MSR.  A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to pick-up a shiny, nearly-new, copy of Ridge Racer V, it was found in the 'Billy bar...

The Last of Us, unforgettable...

Image
I'm sitting on the sofa staring at the screen, for the third night in a row. I'm really struggling to progress in this apocalyptic future. "This time!" I say to myself, as a stray bullet firmly plan ts itself into my head. I reckon The Last of Us is basically practising for when the dead will one day inherit the Earth, maybe in my lifetime? People like me will be prepared and ready, armed with 'shiv's', and sections of drain pipe! "Bollocks!", I shout! At 3:49am, my girlfriend and I have been playing for nearly six hours straight, and I need to be up for work in a few hours. I don't recall sleeping, but three hours later I was driving to work, listening to Talk Sport, trying to stay awake! Damn you The Last of Us.  You may, or may not already know, The Last of Us is a type of role-playing game set in a post-apocalyptic future, after the human race has been ravaged by an unknown disease, turning its victims into zombie-like creatures - ...

The Cave - Classic Review

Image
A freebie on Playstation Plus, I'd better play it for a bit. Now, what would happen if I get that object over there? Ah and that opens this...  now if I can just avoid that dragon. "Ahh, it got me." From the creator of Monkey Island (Ron Gilbert), published by SEGA and tailored by the developer of Psychonauts... comes the eerily named title 'The Cave'. Ron Gilbert is an Amiga legend, his games are still with us today, released on newer formats (iPad, iPhone and Android) and still enjoyed by millions the world over. Here's a question. I wonder If we'll still be playing the Cave twenty years from now? 2013 seems a funny time for Ron to branch out, but here's his first game in over two decades. It's a game filled with logic, leaps of faith and death-defying jumps... The idea has been floating around inside Ron's noggin for the last twenty years. There's lots of narrative, clever puzzles and a sense of original humour not found in g...

WIPEOUT - Classic Inspection

Designer Racing: Motor racing is dead! Long live anti-gravity racing! This old skool, but futuristic racer, used to be my crack pipe of gaming. Wipeout is a white knuckle adrenalin rush, from start to finish. The opening sequence sets the game up nicely, and the boys at Psygnosis should have been knighted on the presentation alone. What's it all about: The year is 2052, and Anti-gravity racing has become the biggest show in the Solar System. This ballistic racer puts you in the cockpit of a souped up craft. In the Championship mode, you must race across six massive circuits in a bid to secure first place. The tracks contain all sorts of crazy swerves and curves, and on the later tracks, you'll need to rely heavily on the air brakes. How does it handle: There are two racing classes in Wipeout. These are Venom (beginner) and Rapier (Hard as nails). If you're skillful enough to complete all six tracks, and finish top of the points table...
